Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go…
Where everybody knows your name.
Not everyone has that luxury, specifically everyone who competed at Alpha Wrestling Entertainment. As the company closed shop not too long ago it left a couple of AWE stars with nowhere to go. While others moved to more established companies, some opted to find newer homes to make their name a mainstay under that banner. Unfortunately Dom has been sulking in his loss. Almost as if he lost his first love, Dom has buried himself in replays of AWE of and his home built gym.
Dom hasn’t been in the industry for a long time, in fact AWE gave Dom his first chance a professional wrestler and their company believed in him like he was their son. He stumbled a couple times but never gave less than one hundred percent while promising to uphold all of the laws of the ring. The fans grew to love him for his smile and positivity and using them as his inspiration Dom found his way to the top of the AWE mountain where he won their most prized possession. The AWE Paramount Championship.
Soon, he’ll travel to Union Battleground where he opted to compete in a one time only opportunity given to him by Axel Graves. Axel knew he was a man hungry for competition, having only recently been bitten by the wrestling bug – but for Dom it’s more than that. It’s more than just wanting to compete. It’s to compete in honor of AWE. To show the fans that Dom DiBona wasn’t just a flash in the pan, dime a dozen guys. More importantly it was to prove to himself that he can do this. He can live this lifestyle and he will stop at nothing before the world knows his name.
For that opportunity he is grateful. So in Dom DiBona fashion he has chosen to put the three letters than meant the most to him on his wrestling trunks. So that AWE may never be forgotten and as a warning to everyone who comes in to contact with him. They will leave awe-struck with their mouths agape and the wind drawn from their lungs.
As the camera scene opens we see a close up of Dom DiBona’s face in severe distress. Beat red and veins bulging from his neck and forehead he takes a deep breath and drops below the camera as the scene widens and shows a metal bar with four plates on each side nearly bending across the top of his back. He squats down and emerges to stand back up slowly with his legs shaking as he locks his legs out and allows the bar to fall off of his back and bounce off of the floor behind him.
His eyes locked on the camera the entire time Dom unlatches the leather weightlifting belt around his waist and it falls next to the bar as he walks away giving a quick wink to the camera,
“Union Battleground!” loudly Dom screams towards the camera before suddenly stopping and pointing inquisitively, “Is it cool if I call you UB?”
Continuing he bends over to pick up a towel to wipe the chalk from his hands, neglecting to wipe the sweat glistening off of his sculpted physique, “I know it probably looks like I was unprepared for all of this – but truth be told I thought maybe my opponent would want to know what hard work looks like.”
Dom looks around the room before leaning into the camera, “Between you and me – a little more time in the gym would benefit the whole pasty white slim guy thing he has going on. But, to each his own.”
“Great thing about the gym is no matter what is going on in your life you can bury yourself here and act as if none of it matters. Girl problems, family problems, problem problems – all of them can be taken care of here as the only vice that gives back what you put in. I mean I’m sure booze and drugs are really cool, but when you get addicted to all of this”, Dom raises his arms and looks around at the home gym he has built for himself, “You benefit from your addiction”
“It’s more than just meathead movements and shirtless grunts though. Each lift is a metaphor that you must mentally prepare for before choosing to embark upon the adventure. For instance, when I put that squat bar on my back I’m choosing to put the weight on my shoulders and prove to the world and myself that I’m willing to go to the deepest of depths with it before emerging from the bowels of hell with the same weight and as I stand up I show the world I can handle more. I showed AWE time and time again and when it closed I saw everyone move on.”
He shakes his head and looks away from the camera trying to avoid getting more emotional than he already has in the past weeks
“But not me, man. Not me, I can’t. They always say you never forget your first, and don’t worry Jack I’m sure one day you’ll get that reference – but that reference applies to more than just the gutter minded guys. I’ll never forget my first win. I’ll never forget my first championship and the way the locker room rallied behind me when I made it back through the curtains. I chose from that very moment to put the AWE on my back and no matter where I went I would prove that what we were for that very brief time was something special, Jack. Now I’m sure you will take a walk down your memory lane and inform me of how many championships you’ve won and pat yourself on the back but I encourage you to save that for someone else who gives a crap about all that. I’m coming to Union Underground as a man without a home stripped of everything he knew.”
With a roll of his eyes Dom shakes his head and walks over towards a table before bending over to pick up a gym bag and dropping it on the table with an echo throughout his empty gym.
“Perhaps you can’t grasp what I’m talking about so allow me to show you. You hear how heavy that bag was when it landed on the table? A life full of baggage can weigh you down. Make you second guess every decision you make. So excuse me while I let go.”
Reaching into the bag Dom pulls out a framed picture of his hand being held up in front of fans, “This was AWE. My first win. I fed off that crowd and they fell in love with me because they believed in me. But now?” He throws the picture behind him, “Doesn’t matter.”
Bringing out another item is a replica of the AWE Paramount Championship. Holding it in his hands he takes a deep breath, “This was my first championship. A replica of it was gifted to me by AWE. My entire life I stood up to bullies and got knocked down. But this was the confirmation that my fight to the top was in meaningless…until now.”
With the same carelessness Dom throws the championship behind him, “The bag seems lighter already” Dom turns the back upside down and the rest of the contents fall to the floor and he kicks a couple of them away from his feet.
“You see, Diamond Jack, they say a diamond lasts forever and I really hope that’s the case because I’d love for you to forever remember and tell the story of the kid who walked in off the street and left you on your back staring up at the lights. That’s the only option I have. I’m fighting in remembrance and you’re fighting out of ego. Some false claim of perfection that you strive for unwilling to acknowledge that imperfection is the greatest gift this world gives us. I acknowledge I’m not the biggest dog in any fight – but I dig and I claw and god damnit I fly off the ropes with grace. You won’t acknowledge your weaknesses and once I find them I will exploit them. I will show the world that you aren’t a diamond. You’re cubic zirconia. You’re a fake. A fraud. You project your insecurities the way others have that I’ve stepped into the ring with but the only difference is they knew what they were getting themselves into and you don’t. I’m the day taking, hand shaking, rope breaking, ain’t no god damn shame in the strength of my flame kid from Youngstown. I have no baggage left. All I have is two fists that have a date with your face, Jack.”
