The scene opens up outside of an animal shelter. Inside it is all crazy, and loud with barking from the dogs. Two people are walking up to the doors, more like one is being pulled to the door by the other. The two are seen to be Chris Andrew, and Mandi Morrison. Mandi was pulling on Chris arm, as she was excited, and couldn’t wait to go inside. She was even giggling a bit, as she was that excited. A side of Mandi not many got to see. Before they even get to the doors though, Chris stops, as he gets Mandi to stop.
“What are we doing here babe? I don’t know of we can afford a puppy. I heard they require a lot of money to be taken care of… Not to mention they tend to poop everywhere…”
He looks at her, holding her hands.
“No, we don’t need a puppy. We travel too much for one as it is. Geordie would kick our asses if we got one, and he had to take care of it. I don’t trust William with one.”
She laughs, as she shakes her head.
“More like we are here to prove something. It’s to show why I am not scared of Damon, even if he does make threats, or warnings as he calls them.”
Chris looks perplexed, but determined to follow his girlfriend in this. With a shrug, he enters the shelter, still holding Mandi’s hand. The noise inside is almost deafening, the guardian’s voice yelling them to shut up barely audible over the continuous barking. He walks to them both, welcoming with a wide smile.
“Welcome young folks. Please feel free to take a look around, I’ll be here if you need me. I hope you don’t mind the noise.”
He laughs, sitting on a chair in what looks like a messy office.
“No worries, the noise is expected. I know exactly what we are looking for. Come on Chris.”
She was again giggling, as she knew Chris was a bit perplexed about it all, but she was at least having fun. Maybe for the first time excited about a match, and not just wanting to get to it, and it be done, or nervous. She leads the way, as they start looking at the dogs, as they are in cages. She passes by the really cute ones, not even paying them any attention.
“Nope, not any of these. They won’t work.”
“Seriously babe? The grey one was so cute, with those big puppy eyes…”
He chuckles at the realization that being a puppy, he was more than entitled to look at people with puppy eyes. And just like that, he remembered how much he always wanted to own a dog when he was a small kid in Arizona. They keep walking down the narrow passage, surrounded by dogs of all breeds. She looks at him, as she lightly laughs, shaking her head.
“Babe we are not here for a cute one with big puppy eyes. Would almost make one think you want to get one”
She wasn’t sure if she wanted one right now, as she looks at him, before looking back at the dogs. She knew what she was looking for, just had to find it. The next set of cages hosted bigger purebred dogs. He found it weird to see such beautiful and proud specimens forced to leave inside a shelter. He started wondering what could possibly push someone to abandon what is universally known as humans’ best friend. Cruelty or just an unfortunate coincidence? Mandi noticed him lost in his thoughts, staring at a Dalmatian, curled up in the cage corner.
“Babe you alright?”
She stops, as she walks over to him. She looks at him looking at the Dalmatian. She could see something seemed to of got him lost in his thoughts.
“Yeah sorry babe… I was just wondering where the other one hundred are!”
He laughs, the thoughtful Chris gone as quick as he popped up. He gives her a quick kiss on the cheek, before keeping their search for the perfect dog. She laughs, as she looks at him.
“Well alright, if you say so. You know as well as I do we can’t get a dog right now.”
She laughs, as she would soon see something out of the corner of her eye. She smirks, as she runs towards it, hoping he was following behind her. It was a scared up, older male, a mixed breed even. You could tell he had been through a lot.
“This is the one babe.”
“This dude here?”
He gives it a closer look. A puddle of drool on the floor right under its massive head. The dog walked to the cage door dragging one leg, limping. The dog starts sniffing Mandi’s hand, its tail tucked between its legs.
“He doesn’t look in a great shape babe…”
She smiles, as she nods her head, while petting him.
“This is why he is perfect Chris. See he isn’t all that great of a shape, he is ugly to some, just a mess. See he reminds me a lot like Damon. Ugly, a mess, to most they would pass him up for something else. To me I see a sweet, cute lil puppy, one who just needs loved. I see what is more on the inside with this dog, just like I do with Damon. Yes he looks terrible on the outside, but I know on the inside this dog is nice, sweet, and kind. See Damon, he puts on this front, he acts all big, bad mean. He gives warnings as he calls them, but deep down, you know he is timid, is not a threat. He is really just a nice guy who needs loved. See to me, that is a cute little puppy. See to me, Damon is a cute lil puppy. “
She laughs, as she couldn’t help it, as she glances at Chris smiling.
“I know it may not make sense to others, but it’s ok, because it does to me. It doesn’t always matter what you look like, it matters more on the inside, and how you can be better no matter what. Sure Damon is acting like he is big, bad, dangerous, act like he is a grumpy head, but I know, and have seen he can be nice. In the ring, who knows he may not be all that nice, but that is different, and he will still be a cute lil puppy to me. I know Damon would rather me not call him that, but you know what, I can’t help it, it is just so much fun to call him it. Just like it will be so much fun when I beat him in the ring.”
She gets this wide grin on her face, as she was showing her confidence. She was excited, as she couldn’t wait for the match. She lightly licks her lips.
“I do have to say, I was sad when the cute lil puppy stopped playing with me on twitter. Awww what’s the matter puppy, had enough of the little girl? Awww poor little thing. Really you know it is funny he warned me, yet he didn’t really follow up on it, as I showed what I thought of him, and show he would not intimidate me. You know what though, I still will get to play with the cute lil puppy in the ring, and I am going to have fun. Damon, I really really hope he is up for some fun, because I am ready for it. Chris you know I am ready. For now though, come on, let’s go, think we should go home, and have some fun of our own.”
She smiles, as she walks over to Chris, as they start to walk out. She stops though, as she looks back at the dogs.
“Hey Chris, go on ahead, I need use the restroom. I will be out after you.”
Chris nods his head, as he walks on, heading out, as Mandi walks along the dogs, stopping right at the Dalmatian that Chris was looking at earlier. She pulls her phone out, as she takes a picture of him, as she sends it in a text, along with a message to someone. She smiles, as she nods turns, and walks out to join Chris, without saying a word about what she did. The scene fades out.
