The scene opens up on the plane, as it was heading for Greenville, SC, where the next Union Battleground show was. On the flight were Mandi Morrison, and Chris Andrew. Both had triple threat matches for Lights Out. Mandi was looking forward to hers, as she was snuggled up close to him, her head leaning on his shoulder, as she was looking out the window. She was thinking, not wanting to move, but least thinking about her match. She sighs softly.
“You know babe, Cheyenne reminds me kinda of myself before my first match. So naive like, and stuff.”
Chris looked at her with dreamy eyes. Even after five months, he still couldn’t believe he was lucky enough to find someone like Mandi. In his mind, the memory of her first meeting was so vivid. The surprise when she said she would fly to Dallas to see his match, the crazy event of that night, her watching over him while he was laying on a hospital bed in and out of consciousness. The sweetness in her voice when she told him she would stick around for a few more days to take care of him, a kid from Arizona nobody, except a couple of people, never gave a fuck about. And how, since then, they became inseparable, flying all around to attend his many wrestling commitments, still finding the time to finish her training.
She was right, she came a long way from those first weeks together. She was still the sweetest girl he ever met, her smile was always able to melt his heart. But she found a new aggression, something none of them was aware of. A side she showed first on twitter, taking his boyfriend’s defense, stepping up for him when his way too big heart of gold and generous attitude were preventing him from fighting back. A combativeness she successfully brought to the ring, getting back on track after a rough debut for Mister Graves company with two consecutive wins.
“Yeah, somehow… Even though, I think she lacks your attitude. I mean, it’s no secret now that you have quite the temper… Thankfully, you learned to channel it into the right stuff, like inside the ring. Cheyenne… I don’t know she seems too much of a nice girl to really make it in a tough business like this.”
“She is, more so if she faces someone like I did my first match. She needs to learn everything is not going to be fair, or equal like she wants to think. She just maybe should stay on the farm. I get it, I was like that, till things changed. I miss being the old me, but I like how I am now.”
He was nodding his head, listening to her words.
“I am proud of who you became. I know I didn’t always made things easy for you, doing stupid things that pushed you over the limit… But yeah… Actually I like this new Mandi, even more than the old one. Still the young girl I fell in love with, but stronger and tougher. You see, I like this Cheyenne chick…”
Mandi gave him a scolding look, that quickly made him eating his words back.
“Not that way babe… But yeh, she seems to be a good girl. And I really wish her luck for her career. Maybe she can learn something from this ass whooping you will handle her.”
She looks at him, as she nods her head. Her scolding look changed back to a smile
“Yeah I think I can do that. Least will be a lesson better than the one I had. Only thing I am confused on, I have heard her say she’s a rookie more or less, but yet heard her say she’s been wrestling for a few years now. Kind of confusing on which one it is.”
Puzzled, he stared at her. With a light shrug, he went back to his usual smile.
“I don’t know, maybe she wrestled for some backyard promotion, or some place back where she comes from, and this is actually her first big stage. Anyway, you shouldn’t underestimate her… She may know more than she make people see”
“Me underestimate… I won’t do that. I rather see what she is made of. I know I can overcome her, but know she can throw in a surprise. Besides, I underestimate, and Geordie finds out, I’m dead.”
She lightly laughed.
“Bad enough he wasn’t happy with me over this whole cute little puppy thing I been calling a few people.”
“What? That was hilarious… And besides, it was more of a mind game rather than you taking him lightly, as you proved to everyone in that ring. I think it’s safe to say it was the upset of the night… Not for me of course, I knew you had his number.”
He ruffled her hair playfully.
“It was, plus having fun. Something the Zombie chick needs to do. I think they enjoy putting me against people who just don’t know how to have fun. All uptight, and serious. Can’t always be like that sadly.”
She looked at him, as she shakes her head.
“I do think it’s funny Zombie chick is thinking I should be scared of her. Can’t let fear rule you.”
Chris was staring at the clouds outside the window.
“That’s true babe. But that girl is tough, I remember seeing her in AWE, where my friend Benny used to fight. Watch out for her, she’s dangerous and not afraid to take shortcuts. Never turn your back on her.”
“Isn’t that where Candy wrestled? We went and watched her one match right...Still I will be watching out for her. Not making that mistake again of someone using shortcuts. I learned that lesson. She can be tough, but I am tougher.”
She didn’t know that for sure, but she wanted to think she was. Her enthusiasm and confidence were commendable, and he couldn’t help but wrap his arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer and rubbing her arm.
“My kickass girlfriend!”
A quick kiss on her head, taking a sweet moment to soak in the scent of her hair.
“You got this babe. You’ll go out there and shock the Union fans once again, keeping your winning streak going. I know you can do this.”
She nods her head, as she smiles lightly. She knew he was right.
“I know I can. I’m ready to set things on fire, and wait…. Poor choice of words there… but still, I’m ready to show I am someone to watch out for, that I can be one of the top. I’m not letting Farm Girl, or Zombie Chick stop me.”
“Now that’s talking baby! Whoever gets on her way will go down. You’re destined to greatness, I always knew it. You are a natural born fighter, you have this fire burning….”
He stopped, rolling his eyes.
“Bad phrasing again… You have this desire inside you that will take you places. I can almost picture you fighting Emery Layton for the Trench War Championship sometime soon.”
She nods her head, as she was smiling.
“You know it babe. You know, this is the first show we both been scheduled for isn’t it?”
She hadn’t thought about it before, as she looks at him.
