We see Tornado Desencadenado where he is most comfortable: in the ring. He’s wearing his gear, a light blue singlet with silver and white whorl patterns airbrushed into the spandex fabric. Right now he’s doing on rope drills; caroming off the taut cables that encompass his personal “safe space” before charging to the opposite side with breakneck speed. Occasionally he will mix up his sojourns across the canvass by leapfrogging an imaginary opponent of executing a front forward roll. He ceases his warm ups by hooking his arms around the top rope and back-flipping his way to the outside.
There’s a change in scene, and now we’re watching Tornado working over a striking dummy. He buffets the stand with stiff forearm strikes, spinning backhand chops, and whip-fast roundhouse kicks. Each hard shot makes the dummy wobble, and the sound of flesh hitting vinyl fills the empty gym.
Our third vignette shows the Spin Doctor back in the ring, facing an opponent more sentient than the previous one. As a trainer and a pair of lookie-loos watch from the apron Tornado and his sparring partner do some chain wrestling: elbow and collar tie up to rear waistlock takedown which Tornado repeats multiple times to a reversal and a side headlock takedown that the Fundamental Elemental is able to transition to a fireman’s carry takedown, a front chancery, and finally a gator roll that forces his foe to quit. The two men spring to their feet and shake hands before walking to the ropes to talk to the gathered crowd.
We don’t get to hear their group’s conversation; as instead there's another cutaway, this time to Tornado Desencadenado sitting alone on a stationary bike. He’s no longer in his gear, switching out instead for a simple grey tee shirt and green jogging shorts. His short, well-muscled legs slowly push the pedals to the workout machine, making it apparent this is how Tornado cools down after his earlier, more strenuous workout routines. He addresses the viewers:
“Salvation is big on showing us ‘atmosphere’ in their promos, dark alleys, spooky churches, blood-filled pools, so I decided to borrow that idea to make it clear what I am about. And that’s the business. I’m a wrestler; not a monster, or a savior, or whatever my opponents at Lights Out 11 want us to believe them to be. I joined Union Battleground to compete, to win, and to make a name for myself in this sport. So far I’ve done alright. I’m 3-0 in UB, have met a tag team partner in Trixie who complements my abilities as a performer, and now have the chance to help end the aura of invincibility that surrounds the company’s biggest boogeyman.”
The camera zooms in for a tighter shot of Tonado’s face as he turns the topic to Salvation’s leader.
“Nemesis is undefeated in Union Battleground. He’s beaten some talented wrestlers, from Damon Xalvador to Drew Stevenson to Anton Chase. The “Alpha and Omega” has built up a head of steam and is moving towards what I think is his ultimate target, the Guerrilla Warfare Battle Royal. That match is the perfect venue for him to become Number One Contender for the Union Battleground title; not just because of his own considerable ability but also because his followers, Kreature, Camilla Martinez, and Sinister could be in the ring with him, and help him deal with his opponents. Strength in numbers; it’s a pretty smart plan if that is in fact what Nemesis is up to.”
TD leans forward, resting his elbows on the bike’s handle bars.
“I’d love to ruin that plan. As I’ve said in previous promos, I’m not a fan of Salvation and how they do business. They’re cheap shot artists who conceal their thuggery behind masks of body paint and mystic mumbo jumbo. And I know while some people eat that stuff up, as a performer I can’t stand it, especially when it’s used as cover for taking liberties with other wrestlers’ health and well-being. So this Friday I am extra motivated to beat Salvation in our tag match, because if Trixie, Anton Chase and myself can do it, if our random and seemingly dysfunctional alliance can beat the group again, this time with their leader there in the thick of it, MAYBE that will convince Mila and the others that Nemesis isn’t some supernatural force of nature who can reward their loyalty with success. MAYBE we can cause the foundation of Salvation to crack, and MAYBE then they will all come to their senses and realize their mission is doing more damage to themselves than to their target: Union Battleground itself.”
The young man stops pedaling, but remains on the bike.
“That might be expecting too much out of one match, but I believe that people can change if you show them the errors of their ways. One has to have hope, even in the redemption of those most damaged souls. One thing I am sure of, though, is that we are winning at Lights Out 11. Beautiful Storm and Anton Chase will work together to beat Salvation, and continue to make a mark on this company the right way.”
