Rayder Recreational Center
“This place used to be full of so much life. It was a place where families could come to enjoy local events and have fun. A true pillar of the community.”
The voice was quiet, almost monotone in it’s opening statement. It belonged to someone sitting on the floor in the now vacant recreational center. As the camera zoomed in closer, we could see that the person seated was none other than Becky Balfour. Candles surrounded the young woman.
“The owners of this place fell on hard times, but before they did, it was home to wrestling shows weekly. They spent their life savings hiring talent to come in and out to perform for the people of this community. Do you know who never stopped by and wrestled a show here? My opponent for my debut in Union Battleground...Trixie. You’re partially to blame for this, and you don’t even realize it. You’re above the problems that MY society faces. The owners of this center, Davey and Liz Rayder? They needed your help, but you were too busy to wrestle here.”
From two different doorways of the darkened, candle-lit vacant center, walk in two people. One male, one female, both with almost robotic like gazes straight ahead as they meet up directly behind the seated Becky Balfour. They stand behind her, both wearing black t-shirts with #TheSociety across the chest in white lettering.
“Isn’t it convenient that you were too busy, Trixie? You are the woman who proudly has nine different wrestling promotions in your Twitter bio that you compete for. RW, ECWF, SCUV, DARC, Defiant, EWC Prime, SSS, 360 and of course...Union Battleground. For a woman that gets around the wrestling industry so freely, why didn’t you pick up the phone when the Rayder’s called? Is it because unlike 360, they wouldn’t hand you a championship without so much as competing for it? Or maybe it’s because they weren’t offering the bright lights and free trips to other countries to perform that EWC Prime offers you as their ‘Prime Girl’. Reality is...you’re out for one person, yourself.
Love me or hate me, I’m going to bring forth the change that I’ve been preaching. My entire first paycheck is going to the Rayder’s who are standing behind me, in hopes that they can revive this rec center and continue putting on shows to entertain the community around them. The difference starts here.”
Becky gets to her feet, turning to look at the Rayder’s. She points to the doors as they simply nod their heads and head for the same separate doorways they entered the room in. As they disappear, she turns back around, now standing with the circle of candles still surrounding her. With her dark eyeshadow, it’s hard to see her face, but her blonde hair stands out still among the dark.
“Now, back to Trixie. The girl who calls herself the Bad Kitty. With each of the nine companies you work in, they each represent one of your nine lives I suppose. How does it feel, to have it easy in life? Wear a revealing top, show some skin and have the world and championships handed to you. 360 gave you a title without competing and even KCW handed you a position of power that you probably weren’t equipped to handle. That place is now closed, a place where you worked as a GM. How does it feel, to be given so much power only to fail and watch the place close its doors? That Dallas community loved coming to The Compound to watch their heroes like Stacy Sterling and Coby Quik wrestle, but you were too scatterbrained with all of the different places you worked at taking up your schedule, that you couldn’t handle being general manager for a company and it fell under your watch. You let that community down. You didn’t so much as mention the closing on social media. You didn’t apologize to the fans. You were too focused on yourself.
That’s going to be your downfall in our match. You don’t see me as a threat because your focus is being pulled in so many different directions. With defending championships in Prime, 360, and wrestling in multiple other companies, you will focus on the bigger name opponents. I’m training for one opponent, for one match, and you are flying around the world, wrestling in different countries, and then claiming you can come to Union Battleground and wrestle me at one hundred percent. That isn’t possible. No matter how talented you are, or claim to be, wear and tear is a very real consequence of spreading yourself too thin.
Of course, I called you out on this on social media, and you called it being in demand. There is a difference between being in demand, and overcommitting yourself but you’ll find that out the hard way. There are other ways I have the advantage heading into this match.”
Becky reaches down towards her feet and picks up one of the candles that was previously beside her black boot, holding it up near her face to show off a confident, albeit a bit arrogant grin she was wearing.
“My trainer is the legendary Jan van der Roost. You know him quite well, don’t you? He is your tag team partner in DARC. Don’t you think it benefits me to be trained by the man who has worked out with you off and on for the last month or so, preparing for the DUOS matches you guys had together there? If anyone knows your strengths, your weaknesses, any holes in your game...it would be him, and he has been my trainer from day one. Advantage, me.
If that weren’t enough, I’m also learning under Seth Lawless who is a former champion around the world, most recently in #FSociety. Another legend, Gray Malone is helping me prepare for this match, and of course the final member of #TheSociety Zaylee is also in my corner. I have an entire team around me, with one goal...making sure OUR presence is felt through my debut match at Lights Out in Nashville.
Despite lowering your value by wrestling in so many places, you’re obviously talented in the ring. Despite being handed a championship, I know you have also won them with what you can do in the ring, and defeating a multiple time champion in my debut for Union Battleground would be nothing short of a major upset. Careers are built off of upsets. Movements come when you least expect them, and Nashville will officially become the birthplace for the movement of #TheSociety. We’re coming, Kitty. Don’t run. Don’t hide. Embrace us. Join us. Be a part of our society.”
Becky leans down and blows out each candle, leaving only the one in her hand still burning, illuminating a bit of light in the otherwise dark building. Her phone goes off, which she pulls out of her jacket pocket. With a glance at the words on the bright screen, she heads for the exit.
Once she gets outside, her trainer, Trixie’s tag team partner Jan van der Roost begins walking towards her from a distance after exiting his vehicle. Becky turns to the camera, again wearing a grin.
“Time to talk strategy with your tag team partner, Trixie. I’ll see you on June 9th.”
Jan van der Roost was the nicest man in all of wrestling, he preached honor and respect, but he probably didn’t realize at the moment that the woman he has trained from the first time she stepped in a ring was now going to use her connection to him to exploit Trixie’s weaknesses. Was it right? Maybe not, but a strategy was in place.
Becky blew the candle out as the smoke from the flame faded out into black.
