THE ST. GERMAINE ESTATE - MILAN, ITALY - January 10th, 2017
As Sabby rounded the corner into the main living area of her mansion, she found her mother standing in front of her. The room was the perfect picture of modern style - white furniture and clean lines surrounded the two women. Aurelie St. Germaine didn’t look pleased to see her daughter after all this time. Sabby simply smiled as she walked towards her, the click-clack of her Louboutin’s echoing through the room.
“The prodigal daughter returns.” Her former model mother scoffed, before heading over towards the bar cart. Aurelie may be leaning into her mid-fifties but she barely looked it. The matriarch of the St. Germaine family looked stunning in a simple long-sleeved, black sheath dress and nude pumps. Her long brunette locks were pulled back into the sleekest of ponytails.
Sabina rolled her hazel eyes at her mother’s contempt. “Nice to see you too, Mummy.”
“To what do we owe the pleasure? Your father is in the states, working on expanding the company. Did you give up on that silly ‘dream’ of yours yet?” Aurelie spoke with her back to her daughter, pouring scotch from a beautiful glass decanter into a short glass. She added a few cubes of ice, before taking a seat on the plush, white sofa. Sabina smiled and tossed her purple locks behind her shoulder.
“Actually, OC and I got jobs. I have my first match next week on live TV. Just came home to pick up a few things before I start and see Fi.” Her mother’s eyes narrowed and she took a large gulp from her glass. Her perfect daughter sat across from her, crossing her long legs.
To be frank, Aurelie was hoping her daughter's dream crashed and burned long before she ever made it onto television. This was not the news she wanted to hear. “Your father is not going to stand for this - watching his daughter parade around on television in her underwear. It’s just not good for business. And when you fail it will look even worse on us. I can’t wait to read those tabloids. We have enough to deal with thanks to your sister running amok.”
This response is exactly what Sabina expected. “I think daddy will come around.” She replied with a smirk. “Because you’re going to make sure of it.”
A laugh that was so condescending escaped her mother’s lips and Sabby simply retained her smile. “If you think I’m going to help win your father over for this ridiculous career, you’re delusional. I hope he buys whatever company you work for and burns it to the fucking ground. Wrestling is not a career. And it certainly isn’t a career for a St. Germaine. Honestly it sounds like something poor people do.” With a shudder of disgust, she downed the rest of her drink and rested the empty glass on her knee.
“Oh but you will go to bat for me. Unless you want me to tell Daddy exactly what you and Guiseppe do in your spare time. All those late nights planning ‘charity events’?” She said as she arrogantly made air quotes around the last two words. Aurelie’s smirk faltered as she stared at her daughter. Sabina couldn’t possibly know about her affair, could she?
“I know your prenup is invalid if you cheat. And you know how daddy can get. He has that awful temper. If he finds out you’ve been fucking your co-chair for the past - jeeze, how long has it been Mum? Ten years? Maybe thirteen? Well, he’d make sure that you got nothing. He’d make sure you were exiled from every event and committee you sit on. No one with money would touch you.” She paused, letting the concept wash over her mother.
When you have money your entire life, the idea of losing it is terrifying. Her mother thrived as a socialite and she didn’t want to lose that. And her daughter was right. Aurelia and Guiseppe had been having an affair for over a decade. They had tried to break it off time and time again. But Aurelie didn’t have feelings for her husband anymore. She knew she could never leave him, but she also knew that she loved Guiseppe. She had backed herself into a corner here. And she knew that her daughter was cunning and wouldn’t hesitate to blow up their entire family to get what she wanted.
“You little bitch,” was all she could muster as her grip on the glass in her hand tightened.
“The apple doesn’t fall far from the bitch tree.” Sabina smiled a huge, toothy grin as she got to her feet. The look of defeat on her mother’s face gave her a warm sensation. And she knew it was enough to keep her in line.
The sassy socialite got to her feet and walked over to her mother, leaning down and kissing her on both cheeks, as was custom in Europe.
“Thanks for always having my back. The show’s on January 26th if the whole fam wants to tune in and watch the true star of the St. Germaine’s shine.”
And with that she turned and left the room. When Sabina learned that her mother was having an affair she was only sixteen. She’d kept her mouth shut. She was a smart girl and knew that this information would come in handy at some point in her life. This was the perfect moment and she had never been so happy with herself. Now that her career was protected from the wrath of her father, she would have the time she needed to focus on the task at hand.
