Union Battleground – Lights Out 17 Feedback .
Hungry Like The Wolfe: I got thrown off a little at first by this being in past tense when so much of the show is in present tense. I guess it made sense, what with it being pre-recorded and all. These two are straight up, grade A dickbags. They’re oddly charming, and if they weren’t so stuck up I could find myself digging them because they’re kind of funny but unfortunately…dickbags. That line about the charity tour. Wow. This was a strong opening segment though, setting the scene for later down the line and immediately establishing who we’re dealing with. Plus, it made me laugh with it’s ending.
Blake Archer v Joe Stanton: Okay, so one stupid thing that I laughed at was after the absolutely absurd lyrics to Sunglasses at Night, Dante just totally deadpan saying it like it’s totally normal. Tremendous. I mean, a lot of the size psychology is on point here. One of my favorite moments was Archer just totally tanking Stanton’s spinning wheel kick. Excellent. A pretty solid opening contest. Really dug it. SHAME YOU WON’T GET TO REBOUND NEXT WEEK ARCHER. COME AT ME BRO….but seriously you’re great. :-p
Seek Me: Honestly, some of this description feels overdone. I read that paragraph and I was like “So..he’s…in a room with the start on the TV?” Sometimes less is more. Also, he’s got telekinesis? Neat! And I mean that sincerely. Again, what I love about Union Battleground is the freedom to do that crazy Lucha Underground style stuff. There’s some serious Bray Wyatt in here, but I’ll be interested to see where we go next. Maybe just clean the description up a wee bit.
Trey Gambill v Maggie Chamberlain: Can I root for Maggie based on sheer looks of picbase? Vera. Yowza. Anywho, similar sort of psychology to the first match I think with size being the obvious question. Which made it makes sense when Trey came out throwing the bombs, right away going for that giant pumphandle slam. Really dug that. I also really loved Gambill flinging his blood at Maggie. Yuck. To me, this felt like one of those middle of the show showstealers. Good stuff.
Taking Aim: Solid, if unremarkable, but sometimes that’s okay. Not everything needs to be a barnburner. This is a simple statement of purpose. I really enjoy Noah. He’s kind of a dick, but also sucks you in with how much he believes everything he says. Watch your tenses. There’s a switch from present tense at the start to past tense at the end that’s a little distracting.
Love the Baumer Report plug. I love Baumer Report!
Right What’s Wrong: I hope you dug it guys! I would love some feedback. We’re aiming for both guys to sort of be shades of grey, both guys believing they’re right for different reasons.
Tommy Crimson v Conor Tate: I was originally supposed to write this but then work got stupid. It’s a good thing, because nothing I would have written would have touched this. It’s a fun sprint, really Sami Callihan style with both guys throwing big bombs. I think the thing I liked the most was the crawl to the pin after the Beantown Bomb. Again, if you see this as two guys unloading all their big shots at each other of course one of them is barely going to be able to crawl over for a pin. Strong win for one of the more intriguing characters in the fed.
The Kingdom of Salvation: Not much to say here. Would have liked a little more tension before the attack to really build it up and a bit more defiance from Johnny before the beatdown finished. But that’s me. Man, Salvation are some scary dudes. IS it Whelan though? I dunno. Lots of questions. I don’t think I know enough about this story yet.
Patron Saintes vs The Firing Squad: God, Noah Reigner has the douchiest photo. What an asshat. Anyway, I love the Outliers hanging over The Firing Squad knowing what it’s lead to on this weeks show. Repeatedly bringing that up gives Firing Squad real motivation. They get after it. I like how, despite their looks, the Saintes are hitters. They can clock you real hard with some nasty strikes, if you look at the boot they hit on Wolfe earlier and the nasty palm strike in this. I LOVED the finisher in this. That big, mean bastard crashing down on you with a bulldog? Smooshing the poor girl. Very fun match.
You Won’t Want To Miss This: Ugh, I’m already going to hate Carter aren’t I? What a goon. But you can’t help but get behind Maggie. She’s a ball of potential, with an awesome attitude and a solid motivation to do well. This was a good segment. Be curious to see where this relationship ends up going because you know Maggie’s going to get more popular with the people.
Here’s The Real Trixie: Show don’t tell my friend. We didn’t need the ‘this is how Trixie’ feels narration when she’s about to tell us that in the dialogue. That said, hot damn, Trixie brings the verbal fire in this one. This is a point by point takedown of every argument made against her. This might have been the most ‘wrestling’ promo on the whole show and I mean that in the best way possible. Really liked that strong ending. Good stuff!
Kimitsu Zombie vs Kenneth James Bradford: My goodness, Kimitsu is tiny. This was a nice sort of contrast to our other intergender contest from earlier. The psychology is sort of flipped. This time it’s the smaller person who goes tearing across the ring on the offensive. You can easily imagine Kimi backstage watching the earlier contest on a monitor and deciding to make sure that doesn’t happen to her. I LOVED the dive to the outside that was so impressive that Sebastian had to note how awesome it was even while trying to chide her for being so absorbed by the fans. Fine match, very much the Kimitsu show.
…And Justice For All: Not a ton to say. Solid segment to set up goings on for the next little while.
Flash Kassidy v Trixie: I really liked the commentary at the start to set up the exact stakes of the match. Trixie’s in a really good spot. Again, liked the opening. Different from our earlier contests in that we go to collar and elbow and trading holds. After the way the earlier matches started it’s the natural progression. On a night with so much bomb throwing, the more deliberate pace of this contest was nice. But still, when the breakdown happens it happens fast. Matches should end on the most spectacular bit of offense, and that shooting star legdrop was sick. Nice contest.
The Day of Reckoning Is Upon You: God, I hate Salvation already. What a bunch of pretentious jerks. Guess you can’t say they don’t back it up though. I like how Nemesis has these grand operatic statements, and Crimson just brings the straight “You people” heeling. Sometimes you need someone to anchor the group to earth. They’re awesome, even if I hate them, and I marked real hard at getting a call out. My favorite touch is definitely Nemesis saying “shots” with such disdain. Like he’s too good to be brought down to using slang. Excellent segment.
Finn Whelan vs Terry McKenna: I don’t know much about either guy so this was fun. Strong stuff. The Stamp Of Approval is a pretty gross ass move. Overall, this contest made less of an impression on me than some of the others. I liked Whelan winning with his finish to again raise the question from earlier in the night though.
…My Name Is: Someone fill me in on what I missed. Who is this dude? The wolf line was great, and I’m real curious to see who he’s got on the other end of that phone. Very intriguing. Odd choice for the end of the show though. I might have ended with a match.
Great show guys! Very impressed. I would love to see more feedback.

Man what a review! I was expecting just like an overall show, but I liked how you broke it down, Match by match and segment by segment. I’m always curious to know who actually reads the whole show, who skims it, and who just reads their spots.
With Dolan, he starts off at the end of season one Coup de Grâce, then has a bit at burning hammer, and one at Relapse.
They are short segments, but meaningful ones. If you don’t want to go back and read them I can fill you in.
