Same story......different chapter
Same story.......different chapter
Malcolm Dred-King is currently doing what most wrestlers are doing. Ok maybe not most wrestlers but a good majority of everyday folks, he's at a laundromat washing his wrestling gear. Sure it's not the most glamorous of settings but between the spin and rinse cycle he has a moment....a moment in which he can reflect.
Let's be honest he has a lot to think about; a year ago today he was on his way out of the wrestling business....that was until a chance encounter turned personal matter reenergized his passion for this business. That reenergized passion however has not been without great loss, that battles he fought cost some their careers.....caused him to become fractured if not broken.....and could have very well cost him his marriage. He can't think about all that right now; he joined Union Battleground in part to redeem himself....his path towards redemption has come in the form of the tournament for the Union Championship.
"I won my first ever World Championship in a thirty man Escape From Alcatraz Match. Let that sink in for a minute....I reached the pinnacle at the time of my chosen career not through great wrestling ability and as a payoff of the training...long hours....and hard work.No....I won my first World Title based on my ability to find my way out of an abandoned prison, and my ability to swim a hundred yards."
Malcolm shakes his head....
" But we all had to start somewhere....we all had to have that beginning. I've won many championships since then, but it was that first one that represented and more importantly validated all those that came after it; as it showed me that I was indeed Championship material. Sakaguchi Kyoshi....you are in the position I was in the beginning a young talent needing to be heard....needing to make his mark in this business with the express intent of showing you will be a player for years to come. Honestly I have no doubt that you will....but "young lion" it won't be at MY expense, regardless of your ability or who you have in your corner."
Malcolm looks to his left to see if a dryer is free.....
"I've helped develop young talent as yourself these past few years; I've preferred working with them as I was at a point in my career where it was an expectation and an honor to give back. I was content on winning tag championships and second tier titles because I honestly felt the days of me carrying a promotion was left to those that were hungry.....then something amazing happened; I became hungry again. It was a hunger that needed to be fed, and my current diet was no longer satisfying to me."
Malcolm starts loading up a free dryer unit before the old lady who had fallen asleep across from him realizes it was free....
"You see Kyoshi, in Union Battleground you and I are in the same place but entirely different chapters. I say this because both you and I are looking at the Union Championship to serve as a kickstart to our careers , as validation of the hard work.....the sacrifice....and everything we needed or need to do to succeed in this business. However you and I are on two different chapters of this same book. I say this because you have the talent, potential and ability to win this tournament Kyoshi. You are entering HOPING you have what it takes to become this company's champion. I on the other hand KNOW I have what it takes to represent this company at its highest level. More importantly I'm not going to settle for anything less than the Union Championship. You my friend can either be apart of the coming revolution.....or in the way ........it's your choice. My first ever title win was for all intents and purposes a fluke; but the Union Championship may well be my last and I'll be damned if my journey ends in the second round of a tournament that is destined to lead to my eventual coronation as the first ever Union Champion."
