The amount of energy in the room was threatening to drown out her bad mood so Kimitsu Zombie had to get away. Family was the last thing she wanted to think about. Kimitsu had submitted to the obligation to one of her few good friends and showed up for daughter’s birthday. It wasn’t a subtle affair either given that it was Phoenix Quagliaterre’s daughter. Kimitsu started recording to cover up her unease. Let them think selfies instead of envy. Everyone was dressed to impress but Kimitsu wasn’t flaunting her stuff with the best of them. She couldn’t bring herself to live up to the festive mood given the latest events in her life. She hoped this would serve as a good distraction, but that would only be a temporary fix. So she decided to focus. She wished the birthday girl her best and walked off to find a secluded corner. This was hard since a number of couples had taken the same chance she did. Finally she found herself an empty room and listened to the thumping of the music in the distance to see if she made out anyone walking by. She sat on a couch, checked herself in the camera of her phone, and nodded.
“So I might as well get this off my chest now before I take it out on anyone. This isn’t really the time or place. My mind isn’t really here…. It’s still out there in the ring. I’ve had a hell of a time after winning the War Horse Championship. I learned a lot about myself, and not in the positive self-help bullshit kind of way, but in the hard living, reality kicking you in the head kind of way. This is enough to drive someone off their game, but I’m not giving you assholes the satisfaction. All I can do is deal with it. Fighting is the most stable thing in my life right now. I pour myself into my work and up next, my job is to beat Trixie up again. Given what happened last time you might think that I would have inspired at least some sort of reaction from the journey woman. Unfortunately it’s been all smiles from her. Trixie looks like the type of person to only look on the bright side of life. She goes around the world working her ass off. I commend her for that now. It’s a tough business when you’re so mediocre in the ring so you have to cast a wide net and hope that someone, somewhere is impressed. It’s been working somewhat. Everyone loves a good pair of tits after all."
For the first time we get an embarrassed smirk and a shake of the head. She didn’t think she had any humor left in her.
“Trixie is quite happy with this situation because she thinks that the world will right itself for her. She earned her shot and officially I can’t do much about it. It doesn’t matter if I beat her down every single time she is going to go for the title match, she will still have to get it. Why did I do it? Here in Union Battleground, where the best of the rest come to get tested, I showed Trixie a little taste of reality. This is a title that has been elevated and fought for in all types of places from all comers. Emery Layton made this belt desirable to others. To me, she made this an obsession. I don’t know if Trixie is embarrassed or she is trying to be willfully ignorant, but if someone denied me my shot at this title I would want to destroy them. I would put everything that I had to make sure they wouldn’t enjoy the rest of their worthless career. Was I hoping that maybe Trixie did this for me? I was hoping that maybe she’d try something. I expected some fire in her. I don’t travel around as much as she does, so I am very easy to find. She can threaten me with her powerful moveset and pixie-like view of the world at the very worst. This was her chance at being something truly great. I went right out of my way and went on to fucking China just to do this to her. I didn’t have a match on that night. I was just there to make sure that Emery Layton didn’t forget about me. I was there to make Trixie remember the first time we faced each other in Union Battleground. I ruined her shot at greatness… “
Kimitsu brushes her hair out of her face and yells.
“She’s out there in the world having a ball and I’m in here being pissed about it?!”
She paused when she heard footsteps at the door. Kimitsu quieted down until whoever it was walked away. She looked into the camera pensively.
“I am losing my patience with the world. I feel like I am being attacked at all angles and that is when I am supposed to be at my most dangerous. The powers that be believe that this match will determine the true number one contender between Trixie, who had that match no one remembers, and me, the War Horse Champion. That belt alone should be the answer. I fought hard all my way through that tournament and the final match. I won it because I didn’t have anything holding me back. There wasn’t any Salvation agenda, or any clashing with other clans. It seemed to be that I was the only one there for the purpose of the Trench War Title. Now I hold that shot in my hands, and I will not be letting it go. Trixie can put her head in the sand and ignore me, or she can come and give me her best, the result will be the same. I will keep this championship and show the world what it will take to get a shot at the Trench War Title now.
“I’ve been setting my own little standard here in Union Battleground ever since I got here. All those in the War Horse Championship tournament saw what kind of fighter I am. I have the reputation. When I win that Trench War title all you newcomers will see that this reputation is fact. I am that bitch. I won’t back down and I’m certainly not meek. If attacking Trixie has broken her spirit, then the action served the opposite of its intended purpose. If she doesn’t come into this match with the intention to cut my fucking head off then she is already lost. That will be my attitude. Trixie is the invader to my domain. I’ve gone through so much for this to be a setback.”
Kimitsu hears some knocking at the door and American Tommy pokes his head in. Kimitsu stares at him blankly then forces a smile. She waves him off and he walks in to see what she is doing by herself. She sighs as he sits down next to her and puts an arm around her shoulder. She thinks for a second looking refocused.
“No matter what life does to me I’ve got people depending on me too. I’ve got my gripes but all I can do in the end is fight. If they want me to go through this match I will. It is just one more step towards Layton. If it sounds like I am looking down on Trixie, then you haven’t been paying attention. Of course I look down on her. Her winning this title would be a joke and her representing us as the Trench War Champion is the even bigger one. For the first time ever I am not concerned with underestimating someone. People might do that all the time with her but she’s no Tommy. Despite everything going on in Union my story will stay consistent and my path will be straight. This title will stay with me and Trixie will suffer another loss.”
Tommy finally realizes what she was doing and points forcefully at the phone. Kimitsu lowers it so we see their legs, but she forgets to stop recording.
“You’re doing this here? Where is the light?”
“I needed some time away.” Kimitsu sounded embarrassed but pushed it away. “It’s work.”
“Coming to this was the distraction from the other crap. They’re looking for you.”
“I know… It’s just… I need to focus on this one thing. If I don’t obsess over it I will go crazy. I’ll go back in a bit.”
“Fine… how about five more minutes?” He sits closer to her but she pushes him away.
“Not the fucking time. I’m not going to be that distracted. Let’s go back. I’m ready.”
Trixie appears in her hotel room in Japan during the Kamikaze Pro tour in front of a camera in some modest attire. Black skirt, v cut blouse with flared sleeves, barefoot.
Trixie: I'm just going to say this as it is. I lost to Kimitsu Zombie before. She went on to fight Emery for the title. That's history and that's fact.
Trixie pulls her eyes from the camera. A long, disappointment in her from that loss apparent.
Trixie: And there is no use taking any energy into changing that fact. Zombie won the War Horse title. I can't change that either, she'll always be known as a champion. But what I can change is how long she held that title for in history, how badly she loses in the Battleground ring.
She looks to the camera quizzically.
Trixie: Why?...because she assaulted me...because I am yet to hold any sort of accomplishment in this company that shows how good I am.
Trixie: This match on Lights Out is about my chance to change the history and prove a fact. That I can accomplish, that slumps die to persevering and heart. When Axel throws a nimble, feral backstabber at me… I show her my moxie. I show her why I beat three fully grown men in one match. I'm faster and I'm stronger than Kimitsu. I have far more experience with my tour de Trixie going strong. This woman can bring all her own experiences but her anger, that made her attack me is going to end up hurting her come the end of the bell. She WILL make a mistake and end up unconscious from a superkick to the head if I'm feeling merciful. A karma kick if I'm not, I haven't decided…
Her head dips and she looks to the camera with flared nostrils, clenched fists.
Trixie: This is where the pushover part of me is laid to rest and in its place I take that War Horse title and leave behind a lesson… Don't mess with me, capiche?
---END OF ON CAMERA---
Criss Cassidy applauds Trixie, a fellow EWC Prime star who works with Trixie on Kamikaze Pro tours.
Criss Cassidy: Damn, Trixie. I love that fire.
Trixie walks over to the bed and sits, slowly.
Trixie: I am just up to here with nonsense Criss. I have Meg Rydell threatening me from Pride. Dogs of War in Kamikaze Pro attacking me, that manager hurting you. Killjoy Ito’s scumbag of a manager in Prime making me fight his talent in a ring of fire match because I shut the loudmouth up after he trashed me, calling me some girl stepping off this business to be a Hollywood glitz and glamour girl.
Criss knew that, nodded sympathetically.
Criss: I dug how you dropped that guy though.
Trixie: It did feel good. But the point is I'm done with people coming at me. Raising an issue with me. Union Battleground is where I am drawing the line and punching anyone who steps over it. Killjoy attacking me, Kimitsu attacking me, it's done, it stops.
Criss: I know you will. I've been in the ring with you, you're tough. You're tactical and we'll all be calling you Trixie Grimes when you superkick the head off this Kimitsu Zombie walker.
Trixie couldn't keep that smile off her face, being compared to Rick Grimes and reached up to feel if a cowboy hat was on her.
Trixie: Thank you.
She says holding his hands.
Trixie: I just need that support. It's nice.
Trixie then releases them and looks out to the outside.
Trixie: Come on, you're my training dummy for the match. Weather is better, let's hit the training studio. I've got to be payback ready…
