The scene opens up on a nice simple shot. It's of Danny Colt sitting in an airport lobby, staring out at the plane on the tarmac. He seems lost in thought, but as he looks out the window, we see Sarah Colt step around and walk over to him. Sitting down beside him and rubbing at his arm softly. Danny turns to see her and he smiles softly, reaching down to hold her hand. Seeing the look in her eyes, he leans over to kiss her temple softly.
"I'm okay, Baby. I promise."
"You sure? You're not still thinking about Kimitsu, are you?"
Danny shakes his head, a soft sigh escaping his lips and then turns to look back out the window. Sarah stares at him for a moment longer, but then runs her fingers over Danny's arm to get his attention again.
"She was wrong, you know? You don't need to get a killer instinct. You've already got one."
Danny turns to look back at her and grins, shaking his head.
"No, I don't."
"Yes. You d--"
"No. I really don't. And thats fine."
Sarah stops mid-argument as she gazes into her husbands eyes, and he reaches up, draping his arm around her shoulders. Pulling his wife in against him for a snuggle, he lets out a sigh.
"Look, what Kimitsu said, she wasn't entirely wrong. I'm not as vicious as I need to be sometimes. I am like a gentle little lamb compared to some of the guys in Union. Look at War of the Worlds. I'm fighting dudes like Jordan Rayburn and Kira Izumi. These are guys that have gone through hell and back, that have put their bodies through wars, all just for that next big win. They don't just have killer instincts, the amount of blood they've spilled, they could load up Red Cross for a year."
Sarah can't help but grin at that, and she nods as Danny waits a moment but then shakes his head.
"But what do they have to show for it? Jordan's won one Heavyweight title. The rest of their wins are either Tag, Hardcore, or some midcard gold. And I'm not taking anything away from those title wins. To win a title, ANY title, is still a goal for me. But how many years have they shaved off their careers, heck, their entire lives, by doing what they do? You're the college graduate. You tell me, what's the risk versus reward ratio here?"
"Way too heavily skewed against reward. It's not worth it."
"Exactly. Now, I don't deny Kimitsu had a point. I'm a little soft in the ring. But I'm no pushover either. And I'm not someone that can just be walked through. At Lights Out, Kimitsu got the better of me, because she went low. She beat me because she was willing to take the cheap shot for an advantage. And yeah it hurt knowing I'd lost my shot at the title. But, if taking cheap shots is called having a killer instinct....then I don't want it. When I win, I want to win the right way. I want to be able to know that I beat them on my own merits. Does that make sense?"
Sarah stares at her husband for a moment and then reaches up to tilt his face towards her. Leaning in she kisses him softly, her hand tenderly cupping his cheek, and she lets the kiss linger for a moment before breaking it and sighing.
"A lot of sense. So you're ready for Muramosa-Kokka then?"
"Absolutely. I'm ready for this. I like Rhyann, and I'm glad he's got my back this week. And I've seen Axton wrestle a little, and I know he's going to come ready to go to war. I don't really work well with others much, I never have. It's why I wasn't that good at football or basketball. But this week, I think I can enter that ring with some good backup, ready to get my momentum back. If Muramosa-Kokka is coming into this thinking I'll be weakened by my loss or anything....well, then it's going to be my pleasure to show them how wrong they are. Last week was just a stumble. But make NO mistake, this Kansas Kid is still here to win. And there is no chance that they can DODGE THIS!"
Danny holds up his fist as he speaks. Sarah waits a moment but then clears her throat and raises an eyebrow.
"Danny, what are you doing?"
"Oh. That....I, uhhh, I thought I'd try out a new catch phrase."
Sarah waits a moment and then pushes his hand down, before leaning over to kiss his cheek softly. Patting it softly she smiles wide.
"It's a good thing you're cute. Come on. Flight time."
And with that, Sarah gets up and moves her way behind the camera. Danny watches her for a moment and then looks down at his fist and back up.
