Backstage at a show near the gorilla position, Joe Stanton is drenched in his own sweat from the hellacious match he just had and he greedily takes a water bottle from a stagehand that passes one to him. He barely wastes any time screwing off the cap and dumping the contents over his head, letting the water drip down him and savoring every second of it. With a wave of his hand he gestures to the stagehand for another bottle and they obey, giving him another and he screws this one open & chugs the majority of the bottle in one go. Gasping for air when he stops, he wipes his lips and his green eyes lock onto the camera filming him and he adjusts the championships that he's carrying with him. The IJPW Death Crown Championship, the Grindhouse Wrestling Tag Team Championship, the FIW Championship and the WARPED Wrestling FnX Championship are all sitting on him currently.
"Out there tonight I did what I've been doing every single day of my career, I've been putting on the best damn possible performance for the fans and for my opponent, and for myself. No one Joe Stanton match is the same as the next, I wrestle to my opponent, I can do pretty much any style any fan would ever want to see. You want a brawl? Done. You want some shoot style? Done. You want strong style? Done. You want some hoss battle? Done. Hell, you even want some lucha, guess what? Done!"
Stanton takes a sharp inhale and he wipes his lips again, trying to clean them of sweat.
"Variety is the spice of life they say and maybe it's true, because I'm never settled on giving fans any one thing, any one style and I'm not settled with facing just any one style of opponents. I risk life and limb every single week to take me out of my element, I walk into promotions that are not my home turf and I bust my ass off to make them my home turf. I stand up to each and every wrestler that feels up to the challenge, whether they're some person on the rise or one of the big names out there. It's why I came to Union Battleground, to face the best, to make this what I rep when I step."
A somewhat ponderous mood Stanton is in though he shrugs it off and he points at the camera when he talks about what he tries to do every single week of his career.
"It's why I've set open challenges the past two supershows for Union Battleground. Because as good as the roster is, as good as the part timers are, I want to keep that variety going, I want to keep myself off kilter just enough, keep that swivel going and have outsiders come into this promotion and see how they stack up. See how they stack up against me, against Union Battleground."
He wiggles his hand to emphasize his point.
"You know, I had nothing against Mark Storm. Hell, I respected what the guy's accomplished and his skill level in spite of the douche attitude and the jerks that he runs with usually. If he wanted a match against me, all he had to do was be a man and say it to my face, answer that challenge with some respect rather than conducting himself like he did. Rather than attacking me from behind to try to make some kind of limp wristed statement at my expense."
The Scarlet Speedster gets up close on the camera, obscuring even part of his own face.
"Mark, I want you to remember that when we step into that ring, whatever happens is on you. You caused this. Remember that."
