“Heyyy guys,” Annie chirps as she waves at the camera. In a throwback to days gone by, she’s returned to her bedroom to film her promo – except, it’s not her bedroom now. It’s their bedroom now she’s finally started dating her former housemate. Just another reminder of how her life has changed in recent years, and especially since the last time she had to do this.
Standing in front of the off-white wardrobe door, Annie is wearing a ‘Pirate Emery’ t-shirt just to rub some salt into her opponent’s open wound. A wide smile plastered on her face as she readies herself to return to the old ways, before going on to something new. “I guess now's as good a time as any to get some things off my chest. You know, before I step into a Union Battleground ring again!” Annie shoots the camera a thumbs up as she winks, before giggling behind a raised hand. She pushes some hair back behind one ear as she speaks up again. “‘Cause it’s time to answer the challenge again. And, last week, when I stood in that ring with Kimitsu I think–” she shakes her head, “–nuh uh, I know, I was probably the last person she was expecting to see. And I was probably the last person she wanted to see there, challenging her for that Trench War Championship…
But, hey, I’m used to it!” Annie says in jest as she throws her arms out to the side. The smile on her face grows a little wider as Annie holds her index finger up to the camera. “Buuuut then, like, the question is does Kimitsu not wanna see me ‘cause me and Emery are really good friends. Or ’cause I’m that annoying little girl she’s seen around. Or…” she pauses again, tilting her head from side to side as she bites her bottom lip in contemplation, “…is it ‘cause now Kimitsu’s getting worried about her title reign?”
Annie lets the question hang in the air for a moment before simply shrugging her shoulders. She pushes more hair back behind one ear as she speaks again.
“‘Cause now you’ve finally managed to, like, catch your white whale. After all you’ve been through here in Union Battleground; from when you debuted in season one and earned your Rising Star award, to becoming the War Horse champion earlier this year. And then, even as you rose through the ranks–” Annie holds her hand out flat at eye level, “–and took things to the next level–” and her hand moves higher still, “–until you were sitting pretty with that belt around your waist!
But through each and every one of those defences you had,” Annie counts them off on her fingers, “beating Trixie, and Joe Stanton, and Danny Colt. None of 'em made up for that loss, right? None of them would make up for what happened at Coup De Grace, the night you lost to Emery Layton!” Annie states as she raises her hand to her mouth, as if she's speaking to only Kimi, “Trust me I know the feeling.
So you don't gotta tell me how badly did that loss ate at you? Or how much it hurt to watch her go on and beat Anton and Blaise too? And I know how you felt, watching Emery go on and rack up, what, like, 404 days as the Trench War Champion. A reign that’s gonna stand in the record books for a long, long time. ‘Cause Rogan MacLean couldn’t beat it, and we all know how your other title reigns have gone…” Annie grimaces, gritting her teeth together as the reference to Kimitsu’s short lived tenure as 4CW Pride champion.
“But you did it, Kimi,” Annie admits, “last month we all watched as you pinned Emery Layton. And as you became the Trench War Champion. And none of us – I mean nobody – is gonna stand here and say you, like, didn’t deserve that win. We watched you claw and scratch your way to earn that shot, and we saw you take everything that Emery and Layton threw at you! To, like, persevere through it all. To kick out when they thought they had you, to get up when they thought you were down. And you did it, Kimi! You became the Trench War Champion!” Annie gives her opponent a round of applause.
“And nobody can take that away from you.” She states.
“But, that title on the other hand…” The smile returns to Annie’s face, her mouth still closed as she winks at the camera again. “…well we can’t say the same about that. ‘Cause when I saw you throw out that open challenge, and then last week in Mexico City after you beat Alexander Devin to defend that title for the first time. The first time in what you wanna be a record breaking reign, you had to throw out that challenge again. And you had to run down Emery’s name while you did it.
And that’s just not cool, Kimi.” Annie shakes her head again, wagging one finger at the camera as she does so. “Nope, there was no way I was gonna stand back and listen to that without saying something. Without doing something! And you maybe figured it out when you heard 14,000 fans cheering for me, and chanting my name! 14,000 fans ready and wanting to see me take that belt from you, Kimi! 14,000 fans who wanted to see me pop you, POW!” Zellor feigns a right hook towards the camera. “Right in the kisser!”
Annie takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself down after getting a bit excited back there. She giggles to herself as she pushes her hair back behind her ears once more. “But they’re gonna have to wait a little bit longer. Just until Guerrilla Warfare, when me and you meet in that ring for the first time ever. But just remind me again, Kimi, what was it you said last week?
You wanna direct all your hate and malice towards me?” Annie narrows her eyes as she tries to remember the words the Trench War Champion said to her. She didn’t quite get it right, but who’s going to squabble over a couple of words? “Then bring it on! ‘Cause I’ve never backed down from a challenge before, and I’m not gonna start now.
And you might not have been thinking about me when you said you wanted to defend your belt against the best around, Kimi. And that’s fine, really. Like, you don’t think I’m used to be underestimated?” Annie giggles again, gesticulating with both hands as she continues. “But lemme tell you a li’l bit about me, just in case you didn’t know.
Over the last four years I’ve wrestled all over the world. I’ve toppled giants. And I’ve won titles everywhere I’ve gone; from the HKW No Limits title way back, or the GFP Jr Tag Team titles in Japan. New Kingdom Pro Grand and tag titles? Won ’em both, and with different tag partners. SSWA Titan of Trios? The Whitest Girls You Know won it, then we became champions. When I was part of the #sparklebuddies I became a two-time FGA World Tag Team champion. Then went solo and won that Mid-Atlantic Legacy title. Twice. Those SAP International Tag Team titles the Zombie Vice Squad have been chasing? Small Boob Wrecking Crew beat ’em to it. And we took those WCS World Tag Team titles too…” Annie smiles again, hoping the list of accomplishments have made Kimitsu realise the calibre of opponent that she’s up against, “…so yeah, you might not think of me when you say you wanna face the best around. But after Guerrilla Warfare you’re gonna be singing a different tune. ‘Cause I’m not gonna go down without a fight. And there’s nothing I want more right now than to walk outta Guerrilla Warfare as the new Union Battleground Trench War Champion, and stop you from even coming close to Emery’s record.” Annie winks at the camera again.
“So if you wanna keep that belt then you’re gonna need to fight me with everything you’ve got!” she exclaims, “But one things for sure, Kimi; whoever leaves Denver with that title is definitely gonna have earned it. I know you’re not gonna back down. You’re not gonna budge an inch. So you do what you gotta do, Kimi. But I came here for one reason, and I don’t wanna let these fans down! So you and me? We’re gonna rock this joint!” Annie states before puling her patented #grrface. Her top lip curled upwards, one eyebrow lowered, as she throws up the devil horns too. With that, the scene comes to an end with a fade to black.

“I was never one of those people that thought about the future.”
Kimitsu sits on an open field at night. She lights a cigarette so that her face is seen more clearly. A puff of smoke escapes from her mouth and brushes off against the top of a sky lantern. She keeps her lighter on and the small flame dances on the colorful paper on a metal wire frame in the shape of an odd dome.
“The farthest ahead that I looked was ‘tomorrow.’ With me it was only about where I was going to sleep, what I was going to have for breakfast, how I was going to hustle some money together, and who did I have to give a handjob to for my next fix. Yeah. Things like that. It all changed when I joined this business. This wrestling thing gave me a career and a future. I never thought I would amount to anything until I started training. No that I have some experience, and a couple of titles on my waist, I know what I am worth to the world… and I am going to make it pay for what it has done to me. I fight to shape things into the way that I want them to be. For once in my life I have control over my environment and anyone that thinks they can take that away from me will see what I will do to protect it. This might all be fun and games for most of you people, but I will live and die for this wrestling thing. I will have a future here.”
Kimitsu ignites the fluid in a small foil cup on a metal frame, and attaches the top of the lantern onto it. This is meant to hold a person’s wishes and dreams. It’s meant to signal the skies and build relationships among the earth and the sky. It builds relationships among people. Kimitsu is alone. The lantern starts to float away, but she catches it from the bottom before it escapes, and stands up.
“That is what occupies my thoughts nowadays. My career is still young. I am barely above that rookie stage, but I’ve had enough matches now that people are starting to realize that I might actually know what I’m doing in the ring. It’s not all just hope and wishes. I have some of the best training around, and I also just found out that I am a legacy. Oh! There’s that word. Legacy. I don’t know why, but I’m starting to think about what I am going to leave behind and what the name ‘Kimitsu Zombie’ is going to mean in the future. This grows as I start to build on this name and my reputation grows. It’s not the same in all of the places where I fight, I have my ups and downs, but here in Union Battleground that name is solid. It is the nature of this business that we build our name off the backs of other people. That suits me just fine. I actually prefer it this way, and it is one of the reasons I am so attracted to this sport. No… Right now I’d say I’m addicted to it. When I saw the path before me at the start of season two, Emery Layton was always at the end of it. She was my north star that kept me on track. Now that I reached my destination on the broken backs of many it’s time to stay the course, but now I have more control into where I’m headed.”
Kimitsu sets the lantern down on the ground again to see it float up into the air. When it reaches her head she snatches it down again.
“Now you are on my path, Annie Zellor, and it can be lonely. That was unexpected.”
She repeats the motion of setting the lantern down and seeing it float to eye level like a hot air balloon taking flight. She stops it by her head again so that the shadows dance on her face.
“When I won this Trench War Championship, I expected them to come to me in a swarm like they did with Layton. It didn’t happen that way. I don’t know if it was the fear that she put into this thing or if it was my fault. This was a very strong season for me after all. So I stood back and missed a few shows. I put all my attention on the War Horse Medallion matches. I saw who was still hungry for this thing given the extra incentive of the gold. I am so very excited for Daniels, DeDraca, Stanton, and Pleasure to show me who really wants it more. So I needed to give them something to get excited about. I saw my first challenger set up by Mr. Graves, and I was intrigued. It was an old Salvation guy, but one that was going out to pasture. I did what I had to do, but I wasn’t satisfied. I wanted that record. Yes, the one Layton set. I beat her, but to truly get out of her shadow I need to really make this title my own. That’s why I put out the challenge.”
She smiles and sends the lantern twirling in the air with a small innocent giggle.
“It was like turning on the lights in the kitchen to get a late night snack and watching all the cockroaches scatter. I should have anticipated that since they were going after Zombie food. I looked around at who was even worth stomping and I saw you, Annie, still going at the prize. You stayed the course and I commend you for showing up in Mexico to get in my face. Very brave. I’ll admit that I didn’t really know you outside of giving Tommy a few laughs on twitter. So imagine my surprise when you brought up Emery Layton. She’s apparently a mutual acquaintance of ours, right? Is that why you answered the call? Do you want some redemption for your little friend, or is she a rival too. Either way that only puts you in that much more danger. I did something to someone that she knew on my way to facing her. I wanted to show them what it meant to be a person related to Emery. The danger of it all.”
Kimitsu frowns and suddenly jerks the base of the lantern up so that the fluid at the bottom of the foil base splashes on the paper and lights it up. The lantern starts to burn up until it is a ball of flame that she throws on the ground. She squats down in front of it with a frown. She blows on it, and waves an arm over it to send some embers and floating pieces of burning paper into the air violently.
“She’s a bright light, isn’t she? She’s bright as a fucking flame when she enters your life. That woman is just an illumination making you feel all bubbly inside on one of her visits, right? It’s just too bad that you don’t realize that she’s burned up all your oxygen until it’s too late. That’s what she does. She takes and moves on to the next shiny thing that catches her fancy. Don’t worry though. I’m here to serve another purpose with this match. I told her that I was willing to take out anyone and anything she cared about. It’s just as well that I meet with you in person, Annie. I’m going to be that wake up call and I’ll show you why you should snuff her out like I did. It’s going to be a hell of a hard lesson. I’ll need to add in a little personal punishment because of some of the things you brought up. Don’t worry, that’s only for a bit of personal satisfaction. I mean, I got to have some fun after all. Anyways, I’m going to try and beat you bloody to defend my title, but now you’re going to see why that will only be an act of mercy, too.”
Kimitsu turns, and walks away leaving the flaming ball that used to be a promising sky lantern behind her to burn out in all its fury. She takes one last pull of her cigarette and throws it to the side in disgust of the topic at hand.
“A beating now is a whole lot better than a crushed heart down the road. You won’t appreciate this. You look like the picture of a naive little bitch. Don’t worry though. You’ll see. I'll save you from taking flight and flying into the flame. You can thank me after.”
