In den Mund der Hölle marschieren wir (into the mouth of hell we march)
It was a strange thing, growing up how I did. I did not have a hard childhood. Nor was I spoiled. I remember waking up in my bed early in the morning and going to sit with my father. I was a typical daddies girl. I laughed with him, I was always smiling. I was never abused, I was never kidnapped, I was never lost in a sea of sadness and pain like so many others in wrestling seem to have had. I am not a victim of the usual tropes of personality conflicts that push us all into this profession. No, for me the introduction to the darker side of life started as I got older. But before I get there. Before I tell the world where I started and the darkness that I had seen. I need to tell you all the light in which I was thrust. The loving embraces, the smiling faces…
The happiness of it all…
I was born in Nuremberg, in the German federal state of Bavaria. My mother and father are both German citizens but our bloodline is from everywhere from Central Europe to the Balkans. German, Romanian, Moldovian, all of that blood runs through my veins. But the earliest bloodline we can find takes us to the Nordic lands. To Norway. But settled in Germany my father was a police officer and I looked up to him. As any young girl does.
My father is my hero….and I wanted to be just like him.
I made the decision to be a police officer. To follow in his footsteps and dispense justice. To stop people responsible for the downfall of our society. I went to school and studied hard. I went to the academy and passed with flying colors. Before I knew it I was hired. I was a rookie working on the streets and doing traffic duty. It was exciting, it was rewarding. But it also showed me just how sick and depraved the general public is. It showed me how hopeless it is to try and enforce rules and order on the general populous. So, I walked away. Because in my mind. The only true path is anarchy and chaos.
Anarchy is fair.
Anarchy is justice.
Anarchy is freedom.
The freedom of choice laid in everyone's hands. You see, laws rules all they do is keep certain people in line while allowing others to laugh in the face of punishment and order. And some, some can pay their way, some can lie and cheat and steal and nobody. Nobody bats an eye. Chaos, Anarchy. It’s all level. It’s a playing field of fairness and true power. Being a good person doesn’t mean looking at man’s laws and following them. Real sainthood is living in a world where the temptation is there but the strong heart says no.
Laws, religion, right, wrong. It’s all subjective to who you are as a person. If you need laws and religion to keep yourself in line then you are not pure.
If you are only kept in line by fear of imprisonment, whether that prison is real and made of concrete and steel or one of fire and brimstone. Then you are weak. And I have no room for weakness. That deserves to be eradicated. Wiped from the earth like a plague, a disease.
I have looked in the eyes of true darkness. I have seen the temptations and arrogance. And now, now I want to simply live my life the way I have always wanted and intended. I walk a line between the true dark and the light you all live in, the light I was born into with the sweet coddled fairytale of happiness and love. In a world where good people have good things happen to them and the concept of Karma is actually true.
But that is all it is.
A fairytale that you will all wake up from when I drag you kicking and screaming from the false light that you all worship as sheep. Into the grey. Into the chaos. Into the anarchy.
Johanna snapped out of her daydream. Echoes of the past, thoughts that were swirling around her mind making it hard to focus on the job at hand. She sat alone on the balcony of her apartment in New York. Her eyes drifting out over the skyline, an open bottle of beer sat on the glass table in front of her as her phone, set to record and sitting sideways sat against a small potted plant.
Her long hair was tied back away from her face. A face that when we last saw it was covered in a black warpaint, done in lines across her cheeks and eyes. Her lips also covered in a black lipstick were now instead red, her bright blue eyes accentuated by her eyeliner. Johanna was not what you’d call a “girly girl” but she was not above wearing makeup to enhance herself. She let out a deep sigh before speaking, her accent coming through slight with a small chuckle to start.
“I think I sent my message, and made my intentions clear.”
There was bass in her voice, confidence and arrogance in her body language. It had been there last time but now there was a weight lifted off her shoulders. Nobody likes a loudmouth who comes in, makes promises of blood, violence and domination but then fails to deliver. Her hand reached out to wrap around the bottle, her knuckles still red from the match against Nathan Turner. She pulled the bottle to her lips finishing it off, the glass on glass making a sound as she set it back on the table reaching down beside her to pull another out of the cardboard holder.
“Nathan Turner fought and struggled with honor. He got many shots in and with each one I felt alive again. I love this business, I love what we do in it and I have to0 say. I love Union Battleground. The feel of it, the feeling of walking out in front of eight and a half thousand people at Crown of the king cobra was one I’m not going to forget. But that first win is under my belt. And with it has come a difference in respect. I noticed it the second I walked backstage. Before that I was an untested commodity. No one cared what I did in Europe or over in IPW. They wanted to see for themselves what I could do in a Union Battleground ring. And fans and co-workers alike saw first hand the universal truth…”
“Johanna Krieger, is more than just hype….”
“I sat back there with everyone else and watched the rest of the night unfold. I watched Lisa Seldon beat Finn Whelan in what I would consider to be an upset. I watched the same upset happen with Mikey Svarro losing the final. It was a great show full of surprises and twists and turns. And if we get a third tournament, well, Johanna Krieger, Crown of the king cobra three winner sounds rather promising doesn’t it?.”
“But, I have other more pressing matters to attend to. It seems as if my performance has gotten the attention of many in the management side of things in Union Battleground. No sooner had I knocked Nathan Turner loopy and left Jersey to come back over the river to New York did I get the word. At the very next Lights out I would be getting a title shot. And not just any shot, a Trench War Championship match against Kimitsu Zombie…”
Johanna smirked and laughed again popping the cap off the next beer drinking it down almost to the bottom in one go. You know what they say, you can take the girl out of Germany but you can’t take the German out of the girl. Her hands come together as she cracks her knuckles, then her neck, her frame of mind and focus turning serious.
“Many would say this is too early in my Union career to have such an opportunity. And maybe, part of me, agrees. I mean this is only my second match in this company. My second time entering combat and I am facing a champion, a two time Trench War champion. And who exactly am I?. I'm a German girl with mainly independent experience who has only recently been thrust on the world stage. Union Battleground isn’t the biggest company but it is still known and respected. And Kimitsu is someone who is a proven, known name. I’m someone who has just kicked all the doors down. But the more I look at this the more I realize why they would book this match….”
“Kimitsu and myself are rather similar in some aspects. We are both the same height, I’m a little heavier, we’re both foreign, we both seem to turn the professional wrestling world on its axis….”
Johanna pauses for a moment and winks at her phone, a little World War 2 joke….
“We both hit hard, we both take no prisoners. In fact, I love Kimitsu’s style. She isn’t afraid to punch someone in the face till they can no longer stand up. And I enjoyed watching her beat Alex Kincaid. The thing is when I say Kimitsu is more well known that is actually an understatement. The last year or two she has been a constant force in wrestling. Whether it’s here in Unio0n Battleground as a two time Trench War champion, or in 4CW as a former Pride and North American champion. She has been someone who many people respect and some even don’t wish to face…”
“That, however, is not me.”
“I know your reputation, I have seen you first hand and I’m not intimidated. I’m not scared. I’m excited. I want to get in that ring and hit you as hard as I can to make sure you know you’re in a fight. I want to bring that raw, angry side out of you Zombie. I want to go to fucking war. And I know that’s what you’ll bring. You have done it against everyone you have faced.”
“You did it against Finn Whelan back at Coup De Grace. Win or Lose, after the dust is settled everyone knows they have been in one hell of a fight. And that, well that is another similarity between us. We both never die wondering. Everything I have I put into a match and I have had my fair share of losses in the last five years but each one made me stronger. And they have seen enough in me already to put us in the ring and go at it…”
Johanna sits back and finishes her second beer as sirens are heard below in the bustling city. She closes her eyes and takes a long deep breath in, all the sights, sounds and smells of the city hit her with the cool night air. Her upper body covered in a thick black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
“And I will not look a gift horse in the mouth. I get my arrival and title shot may give some people a headache or ruffle some feathers. But I will make every single chance count. That Trench War championship would look amazing around my waist or over my shoulder and I would hold it with the same pride as anyone else has. I’m ready to go to war with you Kimitsu, I’m ready to take that title...and show the world what real German dominance is….”
She growls the last few words and reaches over ending the video.

Kimitsu Zombie sits in a grand back yard. She stands by the side of an equally grand house in the early morning. The sky holds the pink and blue hues of sunrise but she is standing off to the side with her frienemy, Akari like they are conspiring to make some trouble. If Kimitsu is a loud bullet to the face, Akari looks like a blade that can slip in between two ribs before you even notice you are cut. Kimitsu holds up an official-looking hat and Akari reaches for it, but Kimitsu moves it out of her reach with a scowl. It has an insignia in the middle of a pentagram shaped star surrounded by two laurels.
“This was my father’s police hat. It’s pretty old and dilapidated isn’t it?”
Kimitsu runs a finger under it and pokes it through a hole by the insignia in the middle. Akari stares at it with disgust.
“You can tell, just by the way he takes care of this, that he wasn’t the best cop. Downright dirty even. I guess he was always what you would consider a bad man and just used the job as another way to do bad things. There was never any sense of justice in him except for his own. I guess that is still true now since there are only so many ways that someone can change.”
Kimitsu twirls the hat on her index finger and smiles at the camera.
“I’m talking about you, Johanna. I don’t know you very well. Nobody does, but this is the thing that stuck out to me most about you. We love cops don’t we?”
She puts the cap closer to Akari as she were dangling a piece of meat to a tiger and Akari swipes at it again. Kimitsu pulls it away at the last second with a smile.
“As I’ve come to realize lately, a tiger just can’t change its stripes so easily. My father was always a bastard directed by his passions and no uniform could change that. You started out in the side of law and order and now you want to be on this side of the line all of a sudden?”
She shakes her head.
“It just doesn’t add up. Do you think you can gain more power this way? Is it just a matter of convenience? You have been finding some success so early into your wrestling career so you believe this is the way to go. I watched how you came to Union Battleground. I saw your match with Nathan Turner. It’s funny how you turn up with so little momentum and are already claiming the big rise to the top. I know you aren’t exactly laughing it up since there is nothing to be ashamed of but maybe you need to slow down before you turn up with egg on your face. What you are going to find out when we fight is that you are stepping into a spot that has been ruled by chaos.”
Kimitsu finally throws the hat to Akari who catches it with a blade. Akari grabs onto the hat and tears it to shreds with the knife. Once the strips of fabric fall off the brim, Akari throws it away into the snow. Kimitsu picks up the insignia off the ground and holds it up.
“People like you were once my hell. We were getting hassled by people in authority since we were kids. That’s why I picked out this little point of history about you. You were once everything we hated about the world. Now that I’ve gone back into that mindset I had I think I might even hate you. You still crave that power and it shows in the way you talk about yourself. You are already holding yourself up above everything without even stepping foot into this thing full time. Now that you’ve toured a little and come to the big companies you can dive into the battleground for real. Let me tell you what you are going to find.”
“Law and order were never, ever here. This company has been ruled by the deviants for a long time. This place has been ruled by dark powers, violent punks, and a traveling reprobate or two. The people around us have been hurt for this sport. The things we love have been destroyed. Ask Kincaid. Ask Devereux. Ask Emery Layton. The nice ones don’t last long. For my part I have shot down these foes left and right until I got my Trench War Title. You might be accustomed to this way of life now. You might even claim for it to be your whole way of life in a complete 180 since the days you put on a badge. That still doesn’t change the fact that you are way out of your element. Trust me, nobody is ready for the sacrifices they need to make to hold some position in Union Battleground or to hold one of our titles. You say you are bringing hell with you but you are diving into a whole lake of fire, Krieger.”
Kimitsu whips the insignia into the sky sending it flying into the impending light.
“I don’t know if you’ve been paying as much attention to me as you fly off to your vacations while celebrating your meager victories with your beau, but I’m a little bitter right now. Look me up like you tried to do with Turner. Tell the people what they already know about me. They’ve been there for the whole thing. This journey of mines has had some ups and downs. I guess you can call it a rollercoaster but I would say it’s been more like a skydive through turbulent winds and you’re unsure if the parachute works or not. Before I fall I’m taking as many people as I can with me. And when I do the impact is going to be so great that the whole world will rumble.”
“The point is that I’ve won and lost more than you can even imagine, and I’m just getting started. I’ve been living my whole life in a world you have just been getting acclimated to. If you want to match that then it’ll be no surprise to me. What will surprise you is how little I give a fuck anymore. There will be no honor in this fight. I won’t be looking at you as an equal. I’ll just be looking at you as the next person that is trying to take my title away. I’m going to absolutely destroy you for trying. The fight for survival continues. It’s going to be a big lesson for you. I want you to come for my fucking head in this one just like you claim to do everywhere else. Claim you are above me. Be the fierce fucking agent of anarchy or angel of hell or whatever the fuck you choose to be now. It’ll all end the same way. It’ll be me at the end with your blood on my fists and the title still on my waist. I’m giving this up for nobody.”
Akari pats Kimitsu on the head and Kimitsu pushes her away and keeps talking with more intensity.
“Johanna, don’t respect me for anything. I don’t hold you in any kind of good light. Respect doesn’t mean shit anymore. It’s a weakness. You’ve already lost if you put your opponent on a pedestal. It might seem wise to know what you are getting into and to be fully prepared for a big challenge that seems way above you, but I don’t think that is good for you. I come into each and every fight knowing that I have what it takes to defeat the person in front of me. When I lose I am only going to be disappointing myself, and that is just unacceptable. That is why I am such a bad loser, and why I put my all into everything I do. That is why I won’t allow myself to lose to someone like you. You’re too naive to believe that you can defeat someone like me. If we met a few years ago you would be labeling me one of your criminals. Now you might think that we are equals but I am going to show you that I am so much more. I am what you really want to be and sometimes people are just not up to it. After this match, you might just learn that you were not born for it. This way of life takes so much out of you and only those that are truly strong can survive.”
Kimitsu is worked up now. She kicks at the strips of the hat on the ground and places an arm around a morose Akari.
“So strip away your blue and jump into the fire that is living without rules. Try things on the wild side, but I warn you that taking on this is something that holds no protection. You live and die on your wits. This requires a certain level of brutality and I just don’t think you have it in you. You are coming into an unfamiliar place with hopes of tearing it apart when it is already quaking with trouble. It’ll eat people like you alive if you don’t have what it takes to survive. Just look at the bodies that have been chewed up by it. I am still here and I am still ruling over others with this title. If I lose it again I will lose all sense of myself. So you are important to me now. You will be defense number two. That will be your claim to fame for now in Union Battleground. That will match my previous reign. You are a step in my path to make this MY title once again and shape it in MY image. Your climb stops here. There will be no undefeated streak.”
Kimitsu looks down and lets both her arms drop just like her voice.
“You will see just how average you are when faced with a true rebel.”
Kimitsu turns to the side to look at Akari who flinches and steps back and lets Kimitsu pass her to get into the house.
