Red sparkles across the screen as if someone was deliberately pointing a flashlight towards what appears to be a metallic-layered object. As the camera slowly zooms out, we can tell that said object is actually a Christmas bauble which hangs on a branch of a dark green Christmas tree.
Well, it’s not just one bauble at this point - given the fact that a couple of seconds later, we notice several of them. Eventually, the whole tree can be seen and it’s easy to recognize the other Christmas ornaments besides the bauble; such as candy canes, tiny snowman-shaped figures, multi-colored ribbons, lighting, et cetera. And the tree-topper? A classic golden star.
The scene opens up to a point which the surrounding area is clear. There’s an over-sized red-and-green plaid comfy chair right next to the tree.
“Ho-ho-ho! Make way for happiness, children! Santa Claus is heeeeeere!” The voice was known to us, though its owner was trying to sound deeper and older.
Just then, a man walks into the scene. He’s wearing a Santa Claus costume. The red hat and the fake white beard cover most of the individual’s face, but we can tell that it is Benny Stevens.
He has a confident smile across the face, clearly shameless.
“Wowie-wow wow alriiiight! How are-.” He coughed.
“Okay, fuck this, I cannot keep it up.” Fortunately, for us, he realized that forcing his voice like that wasn’t a good idea. Plus, his impersonation of Santa Claus was terrible - and he knew it.
“I know, I know… It’s not even Christmas yet. But hey, I figured it’d be fun to give out gifts to my fellow competitors!”
Benny spreads his legs a bit to the side as his hands slowly slide down his waist.
“Now, who wants to see my big sack?” Stevens laughed.
Benny grabs another Christmas themed object lying on the floor. It’s a red bag which contains the very gifts mentioned earlier. Finally, he smiles and backs away to sit down in his chair.
“First things first…”
Stevens reaches into the bag and pulls out the first gift. The wrapped object is small; the majority of its size fits in his hands.
“This one is for Lisa Seldon.”
He slowly unwraps the gift, basically ruining the whole point that is giving it to the person.
“Oh, Lisa Seldon, you’re desperate for attention, aren’t ya?” Benny paused the unwrapping; looked serious to the camera.
“Ye-yeah, we’re all looking for attention in this business.” He shrugged. “I mean, how hypocrite do I sound when Zack and I are the very ones flying all over the place instead of performing some vanilla moves? The thing is, sometimes people try way too hard to be noticed.”
A quick pause to resume the unwrapping.
“We’re still getting to know each other, but I already see you as one of those people, Lisa. There’s no doubt that you need the attention. I wonder if attention-seeking is the reason why you’re wrestling everywhere. The constant travelling slash fighting is taking a toll on your body. The pain - you don’t actually enjoy it, do you?” Benny chuckled and shook his head. “Don’t get me wrong, though. You’re good at what you do! So, you need to fight the toughest in the business in order to validate your abilities. Is that really why you called us out?”
At this point, the gift is unwrapped. There's a wooden picture frame in his hand. He looks at the photograph and chuckles.
“Nope, you called us out because you need us - alas, not to prove how tough you are. Lisa, how many title defenses have you and Ana racked up since winning the Battalion Championships? None. That’s why you need us. The Hellcats have yet to prove the Union Battleground fans and roster that they are indeed worthy of carrying those Championships. So why not go after one of the hottest tag teams around?”
Benny finally shows the framed picture to the camera. It’s a photograph of the man himself standing alongside his partner, Zack Fantana.
“You are clearly a fan of us, after all.” Benny winked.
He then rests the framed picture on a table nearby; the photograph facing the camera.
“I wondered if you consider The Zombies cannon fodder but nah... There’s a personal vendetta at this point. So why not go after one of the most relevant factions in the world as well?”
Benny pulled another gift out of the bag.
“The Zombie Clan, man… The DTW Unified Tag Team Champions. Zack and I had our problems with a couple of them in Valor Pro. Fun times. We defeated them twice. It’s very different this time, though. Honestly? They weren’t taking us serious. At least I don’t think so! No wonder we are now facing none other than Fukushima and THE toughest of them all - Aokigahara.”
Stevens pauses at the mention of that name. The Daredevil begins to unwrap the gift as he resumes his monologue.
“Aoki is on a different level. There’s something about him that leaves me unsettled. I cannot yet tell what it is, but I look at him and feel wrong. He has an unique… aura. It’s... a mixture of feelings, really. Fukushima is a weirdo but I’ve already seen plenty of those in my time, and she just follows orders. There’s no denying that The Zombies have seen better days, though. They are still relevant and carrying gold, but they don’t pack the same punch anymore. Obviously, there’s a reason why they’ve been gradually falling off.”
The gift is finally unwrapped and to our surprise (or not?), it’s actually empty. Benny snickers as he squeezes the wrapping paper and throws it behind the chair.
“You guys aren’t supposed to be materialistic, right? Therefore, my gift to The Zombies is the memory of Tokyo Zombie. His legacy, specifically. That man had such a powerful mind, he really helped his pupils find a good path. I’ll say it again - it was sublime. Aoki? He cannot even find his own by himself. The Zombies are rotten to the core, and we cannot allow y’all to bring chaos to another company. Tokyo’s spirit deserves to rest in peace!”
Benny takes off the hat, revealing his medium-length hair - he’s been growing it since Valor Pro closed. Stevens reaches into the bag, pulling out another gift.
“A subject that brings me back to the present. In my opinion, The Hellcats are currently the most known faction in the world, and that's because y'all have been working your asses off and winning the important matches. For instance, take Anastasia Hayden as an example. The first contender to Bryan Laughlin’s Championship in 4CW... again. Charisma and good looks are going to make you popular, but you won't be able to withstand the pressure of being at the top if you're not talented. Ana reeks of talent, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to share the ring with her. What else can I say? I’m a fan!"
The gift is unwrapped quickly this time. Benny lifts up a t-shirt, revealing its front to the camera. It is the newest VCO brand t-shirt, signed by The Daredevil himself.
“Wear it proudly, Ana. I promise I’ll wear one of yours too, and I have a feeling we’ll meet again in the squared circle after all this!” He winked before placing the shirt on that same table.
Benny then stretches his neck, motioning with his hands as he speaks with a rather gruffly voice tone.
"Since you don't really know much about me, Lisa, allow me to introduce myself properly. I'm Benny Stevens, not exactly the most patient kinda guy. So, here's what Zack and I are going to do: instead of waiting for our moment to shine, we are here now to take it by storm. You want to punish the Zombies for interfering in our match? By all means, go ahead. The Dead End Friends are here to win the whole damn thing, and hey, perhaps we'd like to add another collection of titles to our virtually empty trophy room. Or actually sell them, who knows? Bobby Franchise needs a new Ipad and some other useless things. He deserves many gifts!"
Finally, Benny takes off the fake beard, exposing his clean face. Then, he unbuttons the coat and points at the camera.
“Unfortunately, the Zombies ended our fight prematurely - not exactly a surprise given the fact that it wasn’t the first time they tried to ruin it for us. Here’s another little fact about me… I fuckin’ hate vicious cycles. The truth is there are still doubts as to which team would’ve won that fight in New York.”
Stevens lowers his head slightly and smirks as his dirty blond hair covers his face. The man slides his right hand through the locks, tucking them behind his ears. Finally, he looks up; his blue eyes shining.
“Well, let’s kill the rumors, shall we? Since you’re the one that called us out, Lisa, it’s safe to say that you started this. Therefore, the Dead End Friends are here to simply finish it.
That’s our role.
Guerrilla Warfare will be a big event - Union Battleground is back on tracks and all eyes will be on us. Plus, it's the holiday season!”
Benny gets up and takes off the coat, displaying his lean muscular body. At this point, his tag team partner is definitely shaking his head while watching this. “Dear God, don’t let that man strip before our family-friendly audience.” Zack probably murmured to himself.
“So, please, wipe the dust off those Battalion Championships, will you? I don’t know about Zack, but I want mine shining bright when I wrap it around my waist. Let’s consider them our late Christmas gifts!” Stevens quickly tapped his abdomen as if there was an actual Championship belt covering it.
Finally, Benny smiles, tilts his head to the left and gives us the thumbs up signal.
“See you soon, Virginia! Merry Christmas!”
Black screen.
“... In advance.” The last words whispered before the final cut.
