Kaelan Laughlin had built herself up from nothing. Her journey in the professional wrestling world had started over three years ago and back then nobody would have ever thought she would be to where she is today. Not even Kaelan herself. She started out a bright eyed girl from Ireland. The Princess of Ireland as her family would call her. Her brother Oliver standing over her and protecting her no matter what. She never thought she’d want anything else for herself, and then she stepped into the ring. She heard the fans cheer her name and felt the electricity and adrenaline race through her body while taking down whoever stood across from her in the ring and she was hooked.
Kaelan sat in her Los Angeles home staring at the television screen. She had it paused on an image of herself from three years ago in the ring. She barely recognized who that woman was. She had done so much since then. That girl smiled and didn’t even know how much her life was about to change forever. How could she have known? Kaelan smirked as she looked towards the camera.
“It’s the end of the decade. Two thousand nineteen marks the end of an era. Leaving a lot of time for self reflection. Looking back on my life I was never supposed to be here. I was never supposed to become the person I am today. I was content on being an Unofficial Princess of Ireland. I look at the girl on the TV there and I barely recognize who she is. If I could go back there’s so much I want to tell her. I want to tell her that life is about to get harder than she ever imagined. I want to tell her that she’s going to learn more about herself than even she could fathom.”
“I want to tell her she’s going to fall in love more than once and she’s going to have her heart broken just as many times, if not more in this crazy industry. Tell her that it’s okay though because even in the moments of absolute heartbreak in this industry you wouldn’t want to change it for the world. That the nights you cry yourself to sleep? In the end it’s worth it, because you are becoming something greater. That yes the highs will be wonderful and nobody will take those away from you, but in this know that all the lows are just as important. Even if you feel like they are pushing you down. You’ll come to realize their building you up to steal the show. Their building you and shaping you to be one of the greatest Wrestlers the industry has seen today.”
Kaelan stared at the paused image of herself for a long moment. Letting her words be what hung in the air. She saw the innocence in her own eyes that everyone else tried to take advantage of back then. Not many people understood what she had hardened up.. But in that paused image Kaelan saw it all. She snapped back to reality and cleared her throat looking back to the camera.
“I want her to know that she’s not going to stay her family’s favorite Princess. She’d throw an absolute fit at that notion by the way, but I would tell her to calm the fuck down because she’s going to be something greater. She’s going to become a Warrior Princess. A woman who’s not afraid to back down from any fight. A woman who will put her heart, body, and soul on the line and do whatever it takes to get everything she knows she deserves. I want the Kaelan Laughlin of yesterday to know just how truly great she’s going to be and that all the pain and misery she will suffer will be worth it in the end. I want to tell her to not throw herself off that ladder into the barbed wire and glass on top of her husband at Winter Wasteland Two Thousand and Eighteen but then…”
Kaelan then shook her head and picked up the remote and killed the power to the TV. The past image of herself disappearing in the blink of an eye. She sighed in that moment. A lot of people wish they could go back in time and warn their past selves of the struggles they would face in the future. Hindsight is always twenty twenty, and for a while Kaelan felt that way, but now? Not so much.
“I guess I don’t want to tell her any of that, because if I told her all of that she wouldn’t appreciate the struggles as much as I do today. She wouldn’t be molded and shaped into the Warrior that I am today. She would probably still be that entitled little Princess and expecting the world at her feet because for so long that’s all she knew. So many people in this industry want to forget all the bad things that happened to them. There was a time I thought it best to sweep it under the rug as well. To follow the crowd because if anyone knew you had a moment of weakness surely they’d see to it you drowned but I’ve realized that in embracing my shortcomings I have grown stronger. They can’t hurt me because each one was a learning lesson and pushing me towards something even greater.”
“So now here I sit. At the end of the decade in twenty nineteen ready to go to war. Ready to fight for my place here in the Battleground. Many people will tell you that they are strong Warriors. Many people will talk up how great they are like they’ve made zero mistakes in their life while pointing out all the flaws of their opponents but I’m not going to do that today. I’m going to focus on my own merits. Knowing that all those flaws people will point out about me are just further proof that I’ve been through everything meant to tear me apart and to pull me away from the ring and I’ve survived it. At the end of the road I’ve pushed through the barriers and when I step into the ring and go to war for the War Horse Championship it will be no different.”
“You see Flash, Johanna, and ole Willie are going to tell you how their Warriors in their own way. How they are ready for war and to battle all night if they have to for this Championship, and they’ve all earned their place in this match but me? I’ve not decided overnight that I’m a Warrior. No I’ve been slowly building myself for the last three years preparing for an all out war like the one I will face at Guerilla Warfare. This isn’t a cute metaphor to me. I’m not afraid to put blood sweat and tears to get that War Horse Championship and I’m not afraid to make sure all three challenges put that all on the line as well. Whatever it takes. No exceptions, because I meant it when I said I was going to start from the bottom and rise to the top. I will end twenty nineteen with that title around my waist and I will use it to become the greatest competitor that the Battleground has ever seen in twenty twenty.”
Kaelan picked up the remote and turned the television back on to show that the program she had been watching herself was still paused. Oh little Kaelan you have no idea the big world you’re stepping into, but it’s okay. It will all be worth it. Being a Monster Queen to Bryan is great, but it’s time to rule over your own realm. You’re going to become something greater.
“It’s time that the past, present and future all come together. It’s time that a true Warrior rises from the ashes of all out hell and mayhem and I believe I’m the one capable of doing that above anyone else. The time for games is over, for clever quips. At the end of the day none of it matters. What matters is what is capable of happening out there and I am a Queen of Submissions. I became a Warrior in an MMA cage this year. So I know how to hit harder than you can imagine and I know what ligaments and bones to put the most pressure on to make sure that you have no choice but to swallow your pride and live to fight another day. I have spent three years evolving. From Irish Princess, to Warrior Princess, and now? It’s time to continue to rise. At Guerilla Warfare Johanna Krieger, Will Nielson and Flash Kassidy will fight valiantly but they will all fall to Kaelan Laughlin, the Warrior Queen.”
Kaelan grinned from ear to ear as she stood there proudly in her living room. She had meant all the words she had said. She wasn’t delusional in thinking her opponents were slouches. She didn’t think they were weaker than her, but she knew she would have to show that she had something a little extra. That she could dig deeper than all of them and come out on top. This was about evolving and learning. This was about rising to the top. This was about the Rise of the Warrior Queen
